Whale Watching, Pt. 8

Bay of Fundy Whales, NB

Welcome Back!

This week I am highlighting the last of the right whale photos from our whale watch cruise. These were taken in August of 2014, while we visited Grand Manan Island for our summer holiday. We cruised with Sea Watch Tours for the 3rd time and we were not disappointed! As you can see from the last few weeks, I managed to get quite a few good shots of the whales.

Not sure what I'll highlight next week, so come back to see!

This week went by super fast...as mentioned last post, I had something booked every day except Monday!

We enjoyed a great visit with Keturah in Ottawa yesterday, as well as with our friends Anne and Fred! We went to the Museum of Nature and we were pleasantly surprised by how big it was and how interesting it was. Keturah wanted to see the special exhibit of Animals: Inside and Out..not sure if that will help her in the Vet Tech program or not, but it was pretty cool to see! We went out for a dinner of sushi for her birthday dinner...I can't believe she will be 18 in a couple of days!

Have a great week!

Whale Watching, Pt.7

Bay of Fundy Whales

Welcome Back!

This week I have more of the whale watching photos from our vacation on Grand Manan Island in August 2014. These are all right whales and we saw them while touring with Sea Watch Tours.

These include various shots of the parts of the whale that I happened to catch...tails, blowhole, body, head, etc... I think I will have one more post of these whales, then onto something different..I'm sure you'll be glad! :-)

Well, I am a couple of days late posting...Keturah came home on the weekend and so we spent some time with her..although, her time was mostly spent with the BF. I discovered some novels on my kindle app that I hadn't read and so, of course, went on a binge and read 4 of them in a span of 4 days over the weekend.

I have also had to re-learn how to cook since Keturah moved to Ottawa! I'm finding it very hard to just cook for two now as the last time I cooked, it was the four of us! I am finding a lot of recipes on Pinterest!

This week is a busy one with a medical appt, a lunch date, an open house at Ecstasy Crafts and a Mazda appointment! We are also heading to visit Keturah in Ottawa on Saturday to celebrate her 18th birthday, since we won't get to see her on her actual bday!

Have a great week!

Whale Watching, Pt.6

Bay of Fundy Whales

Welcome Back!

I'm still highlighting the right whales that we viewed on our whale watching tour last summer. We went on a whale watch tour with Sea Watch Tours when we stayed on Grand Manan Island. We saw approximately 8-10 whales. Of course, some of the sightings may have been the same whales, just swimming in a different area!

This week went by fast! Kevin started back to work on Tuesday so Keturah and I headed out for lunch and shopping. On Wednesday, I managed to get some work done....on a course that I'm taking..it's been slow going! On Thursday, the girls and I headed to Watertown to do some shopping. Brooke managed to spend the most (no surprise there!) I found some craft supplies and of course, lots of different snacks and food from the Walmart there! On Friday, Brooke and I headed out shopping to Costco for her supplies and had lunch out again! We were actually all home for dinner on Friday, which is a rarity these days. Saturday saw us drive Brooke to Waterloo and move all her stuff into her new apartment, which is closer to the school! Today, is a quiet, at home, resting day! Yay!

Enjoy your week!

Whale Watching, Pt.5

Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick

Welcome Back!

This week, I continue to highlight the whales that we saw on our whale watching cruise with Sea Watch Tours. These were from August 2014, when we vacationed on Grand Manan Island.

As mentioned last week, these are all right whales. If you follow me on Facebook, you might have seen one of the whale tail shots as I used it for a cover photo for awhile. There is also a photo of a mother and juvenile whale. I think they said it was born the previous year (2013), but was still hanging out with mom.

I noticed on the Sea Watch Tours Facebook Page, that they've had great sightings of humpback whales this past week or so...rolling in seaweed and whatnot and of course, they get as close as they can...wish I was there!

This week has been fairly quiet..we went to Ottawa to drop a desk off for Keturah on Thursday..it was a quick trip as she had to work, so we just had lunch and bought her some groceries and headed home again. She's coming home for a week's visit on Tuesday, so that will be nice!

We've gone for a few walks at the park this week, but haven't done too much else. Kevin heads back to work on Tuesday, so he'll be out of my hair! :-)

Us girls will likely head out school shopping on Thursday, maybe to the US to see if we can find any deals! :-)

Have a great week!

Whale Watching, Pt. 4

Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick

Welcome Back!

This week I'm starting to highlight the whale photos that I took on our whale watch cruise last August, while on holiday on Grand Manan Island.

Some are NOT in black and white, although they look it...it's just the way the fog was coming and if there was cloud cover or not..there wasn't a lot of sun that day, which can be good for shooting!

We did not get to see the whole whale at the same time....unfortunately, no breaching today. These include photos of it's head, it's tail, it's body and it's blow hole breathing out air as it surfaces. These whales are all Right Whales and are one of the most endangered whales with only 300-400 left in the world! I guess we were lucky as we only saw Right whales that day. Last time, we cruised, we only saw Humpbacks! They are an awesome sight to behold, I tell ya! :-)

Well, this week was busy with painting the kitchen and dining room. Kevin is hiring in someone to finish the flooring....yay! Although, it means my house is still and will still be a mess for a few weeks, until they come to do it!

We headed to Ottawa on Saturday to visit Keturah. She had a day off and didn't want to drive home, so we went there! We went to the Byward Market, had some lunch downtown and went to the Long Island Locks, had a nice dinner and some shopping too! A long day, but nice to spend time with her!

Sunday, was a quiet day at home and I edited these photos then, but didn't have time to type the blog post, so here I am today, finally finishing it...sorry for the delay!

Monday, we went to Waterloo with Brooke, so that she could move her stuff out of her old apartment. She can't get into her new apartment until Sept 4, so we rented a storage unit in Waterloo and will go back in a couple of weeks to move all her stuff to the new place! Her bf Carter came and was a tremendous help moving furniture!

Have a great week!

Whale Watching Cruise Pt. 3

Ocean Sunfish, Bay of Fundy, NB

Welcome Back!

This week, I am highlighting some photos of a weird looking fish called the Ocean Sunfish. This one we saw while on our whale watch cruise with Sea Watch Tours. We've seen one every time we've cruised with them, so they must know where to find them!

Here's info about them from Wikipedia:

"The ocean sunfish or common mola, Mola mola, is the heaviest known bony fish in the world. It has an average adult weight between 247 and 1,000 kg (545–2,205 lb). The species is native to tropical and temperate waters around the globe. It resembles a fish head with a tail, and its main body is flattened laterally. Sunfish can be as tall as they are long when their dorsal and ventral fins are extended."

These photos don't do it justice (as it's underwater), but you can see the massive size of it! I can't imagine catching one on a hook! :-)

Well, our trip to Grand Manan Island was awesome once again! It was different this year without the girls, but still enjoyable. We went to all the usual places, found a few new ones and enjoyed the fireworks for New Brunswick day too!  The best part was meeting new people and making new friends! Everyone we talked to said moving there was the best thing they ever did and encouraged us to do it! There are a lot of people from Ontario who have relocated there. I'm hoping that will be us some day soon! It was really hard to leave this time..it's getting harder each time we go for a visit!

We took a few days to recover and now I'm back to cracking the whip so that we can finish up our renovations before Kevin goes back to work in September!

Have a great week!

Whale Watching Cruise, Pt. 2

Greater Shearwater Seabirds, Grand Manan Island, NB

Welcome Back!

This time I'm highlighting some seabirds we saw while cruising with Sea Watch Tours. These are Greater Shearwater birds and are found abundantly in the Bay of Fundy. We saw quite a few on our trip, as we were heading out to the whale watching area, so I took a few dozen photos!

This week went by fast again. I had a great lunch with a friend from Academy of  Learning College and got caught up with some other students and teachers! I headed to Ottawa on Wednesday and spent a couple of days hanging with Keturah as well as Anne & Fred! It's always a great visit!

Brooke was off on Friday, so we headed out for a nice lunch and a bit of shopping. Kevin painted the living room and we've been cleaning up the kitchen a bit today...getting rid a lot of stuff we no longer use! We're slowly getting there!

This week, we are heading to Grand Manan Island for a week or so for vacation! Looking forward to it...I love travelling! So, I likely won't be posting next week, unless it happens to be a rainy day and I need some computer time (yes, I miss it, if I'm away too long)!

So, have a great couple of weeks!
