Lemoine's Point Conservation Area Downy Woodpecker

Kingston, Ontario

Welcome Back!

These photos of a Downy Woodpecker were taken at the Lemoine's Point Conservation Area in Kingston.

This one was playing hide and seek and kept peeking at us around the trees. It is a female woodpecker, as the male one has a red tuft of fur on his head. I believe I do have pics on this blog of a male woodpecker, probably taken at the same spot.

Well, I may be MIA for a week or so as I'm flying to Ottawa and driving back here with Keturah, as she moves the rest of her belongings here.

Have a great week!

Woodpeckers!

Welcome Back!

As promised, this week I'm including some shots of the woodpeckers we saw while hiking last weekend. Taken at Lemoine's Point...probably our favourite place to go hiking! I believe they are all Downy Woodpeckers, except the last one, might be a Hairy Woodpecker...

I'm thinking I should take my camera with me in the morning when I walk the dog---this morning I saw 3 wild turkeys in my backyard...very cool. They didn't stick around long when they heard Zeek's dog tags! I don't blame them! Most mornings we see rabbits, but I haven't seen any babies yet!

Well, we had a busy weekend with shopping for a Prom Dress in the USA...We were just going to go to Watertown, but ended up going to Syracuse..it was a LONG day, but she found a pretty red dress, so all is well!

This weekend we are scheduled to go to Ottawa for a visit with our friends..I'm looking forward to it as we haven't seen them since Christmas!

I'll probably have some pelican shots next week!

Have a great week!

The Woodpecker!

Hello Everyone!

This week I'm doing an early and quick post! I'm tuckered out today after attending a Hedley concert last night..totally worth it though! Tomorrow I have my 2 neices coming to stay over (ages 3 and 6mos), so plan to clean the house and prepare for them! On Sunday I have a scrapbook party to attend and then getting ready to head to Oneida to do some training on Mon-Tues!

Wow, so not looking forward to being so busy...oh well, maybe I can sleep in tomorrow!

We did get to the zoo as hoped on Monday (Family Day)..Of course every family in Toronto also decided to do the same thing! Anyway, I did not get any pictures of the baby polar bear..And I must make a correction to my last post, he was born in October of last year, not the previous December as I had mentioned. Anyway, I did get some different pics than I usually do, but have not had time to go through them all yet.

So this week, I'm including some photos of the woodpecker that we saw in Lemoine's Point. He landed right on Kevin's hand. We were surprised that he took bread as they usually eat insects! I believe this one is called the Downy Woodpecker.

Enjoy...more pics next week!

For the Birds!

Yep, this post is for the birds! Or for the bird lovers at least! Here are some pictures shot in Nov 2009. I haven't taken any good pictures lately, other than horses, so I went back into the archives for these ones! They were all shot on Amherst Island last year.

1st-chickadee sitting on Kevin's hand
2nd & 3rd-two shots of the same woodpecker. I wasn't sure which I liked better, so included both
4th-a nuthatch getting a seed from the feeder

Grand Manan 2010

Greetings from Grand Manan again (I think I said that last year too!) We made it safe and sound! Drove down through the USA for a couple of days. We travelled through New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine and ended up here yesterday about 6pm! I've had alot of cool photo opportunities along the way too, but here are a few, from JUST yesterday!

1st Photo-Humpback Whale Breaching---taken from the Grand Manan ferry yesterday!! I was so excited!
2nd Photo-Swallowtail Lighthouse from the Ferry--it turns 150 this year!
3rd Photo--A Woodpecker--taken in the front yard of our cottage, about 5 minutes after we arrived!
4th Photo--A Crab---saw a couple of these guys down on the beach during our walk last night. The girls had fun poking and playing with them!

Enjoy! More soon!

For the Birds....

Here are today's offerings...yep, some birds. Kevin and I went hiking on Amherst Island in the area called the "Owl Woods". Of course, we didn't see any owls...well, we think we saw a couple, flying around, but none close enough to shoot. I did get some good shots of the birds we did see, which were:

1st Pic-chickadee with a seed in his beak on Kevin's hand
2nd Pic-woodpecker up in the tree (above a bird feeder)
3rd Pic-nuthatch with a seed in his beak on the bird feeder

Enjoy!
