African Savanna Birds

Welcome Back!

This time I'm highlighting some birds I found along the African Savanna Trail. The first two photos are Southern Ground Hornbills. You can see the family in the first pic and the baby in the second pic!

The next four shots are of a bird called the Marabou Stork. I think we caught them during their nap, as they were not very active, just hiding behind some bushes.

The last shot is a wild bird, not from Africa, but who we caught hiding in the trees.

Well, I've been hit by the PLAGUE thanks to my lovely family for sharing their germs! Still feeling crappy today! Missed my lunch with my friends yesterday too! :-(

More soon...

River Hippopotamus

Welcome Back!

This week I'm highlighting the River Hippopotamus. These guys are found in the African Savanna too. They were just floating around in the water, enjoying the day! Not the most attractive creatures at the zoo, but fun to watch and shoot nonetheless! There were two in this enclosure and I think the one spent most of his/her time underwater, so I think most of these photos are of the same one.

Well, we had a fairly good weekend despite the rain on Saturday. We did some exploring/driving around Waterloo and St. Jacobs and ended up going to the Farmer's Market in St. Jacobs. We also checked out a place called Picard's Peanuts on Sunday..they sold peanuts along with chocolate and all kinds of yummy goodies. :-)

Well, today is Monday and I have two sickies at home with me. I'm trying to avoid them so I don't get it. :-) I have plans for lunch with friends on Wednesday, so I can't be sick and miss that!

More later this week...

Warthogs Pt 2

Welcome Back!

Well, this update took a bit longer than usual...I brought the dog down with me and he sat on my arm the whole time, so it was a little hard to edit photos one-handed! He also has a habit of doing that while I'm driving too! I sometimes let him if I'm driving out in the country!

This time I'm highlighting some more warthogs...mostly the babies, because they were so cute, playing, fighting and even kissing each other! But, I did get some shots of the parents, so I thought I'd include them too! I also noticed that I did get another shot of all the babies with the mom or dad too..one's hiding behind it's parent. For such funny looking critters, they sure are cute!

Anyway, I've had a busy week..getting ready for Keturah's birthday this weekend. Yep, she'll be the ripe old age of 16! Yikes, where does the time go? She's my beautiful baby girl, who is now taller than me!

I've also joined a volleyball league and we had our first games on Monday night...It was quite fun and a good workout too, but very tiring as we didn't have any spare players for this week..hopefully next week!

This weekend we are heading to Waterloo to see Brooke...Apparently it is family day on Saturday..We are staying over and stopping in Scarborough on Sunday for some shopping for Keturah's birthday! Tonight it's out for a sushi dinner for her! Yick! Luckily, I manage to find something I like that isn't sushi!

Anyway, have a great weekend! More next week!

Baby Warthogs!

Welcome Back!

This time I'm highlighting more of the baby warthogs...I'm not sure how old they are, but they were quite a bit smaller than the parents, who I got a couple of pics of...They are not that photogenic, compared to these babies!

These little guys are found in the African Savanna, near the elephants! They are pretty active little guys..they were like watching kids...running around, playing, eating, disturbing their siblings, etc.

There were three babies in this enclosure and I only managed to get 1 shot of them all together..they were just too darn busy and spread out in the enclosure.

Anyway, can you believe it's Monday already! Yep, my house in quiet once again! We had a good weekend. We went apple-picking on Saturday and came home and Kevin made pie and Keturah made apple crisp and I had a nap! I've been really tired lately and going to bed between 9 and 9:30..also feeling kind of congested, not sure if it's the usual allergies or a cold starting...once school is back in, Keturah usually gets sick and brings it home to us! On Sunday, we went to Lemoine's Point in Kingston for a nice hike...carried around my heavy camera, only to find hardly anything to shoot...except a couple of snakes! I did take photos, but only because I was far away from them!  Came home and I had a 2 hr nap and I was ready for bed early last night too! SIGH!

Enjoy your week..more later this week!

More Elephants!

Welcome Back!

Sorry I forgot that I hadn't finished highlighting all the elephant pics that I liked! I had a few more I wanted to show, including the ONLY pic I got of a whole elephant! They are fairly close to the front of the enclosure, so it's hard to get the whole elephant into one shot!

I'm also including a TEASER of a baby warthog...more of these pics next time for sure!

Well, not much new...still enjoying the quiet of the house (and dare I say, cleanness :-)). I went to a workshop on Wednesday on Interviewing Skills. I've also been working on some of my Christmas cards--yep, it's never too early!

Have a great weekend!

Elephants!

Welcome Back!

This time I'm highlighting the African Elephant...they are found in the outdoor African Savanna area. I'm not sure how much longer they will be at the Zoo, as they are supposed to be shipped to California. I thought they were supposed to have gone last fall, but they are still there..not sure what the hold up is, but I was glad to get to see them again.

Well, we had a fairly quiet weekend and this week is quiet too--just the usual cleaning, groceries, job hunting, errands, etc. But, I did get to have lunch with an old friend today..hard to believe that I haven't seen her in so long, yet we picked up like we just saw each other yesterday! Hopefully it won't be so long until our next get together!

Well, I hope to post again this week and will be highlighting some baby Warthogs, who are SUPER cute!

Swingers!

Welcome Back!

This time I'm highlighting some swinging critters to wrap up my photos of animals in the Indomalayan pavilion.

I absolutely HATE the lighting in this building! Using my big flash doesn't help much either! So, my photos never turn out as good as I had hoped! Here are some shots of the Sumatran Orangutan (first 5 photos) and the White-handed Gibbon (photos 6-10).

Elephants on the agenda for next time!

Well, I've had a quiet week, no appointments or anything..enjoying the quiet house! :-) Zeek and I have been going on walks every day or drives to Timmies and getting caught up on our movies and/or Criminal Minds!

Have a great weekend!
