Algonquin Adventures, Pt.1

Welcome Back!

This time I'm starting to highlight the photos from Algonquin Park. We headed up there for a day trip on the Sunday of the May long weekend. Kev, Keturah, Zeek and I hit the road early. We did lots of driving and hiked 3 or 4 trails and ended up in Huntsville for dinner, ice cream for dessert at the Kawartha Dairy and then the long trip home. It wasn't as tiring as I thought it would be, doing all that in one day.

The first two moose pictures below show a moose that was far away, off the road, south of Bancroft...I was so excited to see it, because we've only ever seen them within the Algonquin Park boundaries, other than down East, that is!

The rest of the photos were taken at our first hiking adventure--at the Logging Trail Museum. Usually get quite scenic photos, but today's were a little gray-looking as it was overcast off and on most of the day with some "spitting" in there as well! :-)

This week has been quiet..Zeek got his haircut, so he looks so skinny now and I can see his eyes! Brooke and I did some errands and some shopping today.

Tomorrow the girlies and I are heading to Watertown for some retail therapy for the day and on Sunday we are heading to Peterborough to visit Emily and see her new apartment! Should be a fun weekend!

Have a great weekend!

Wildlife on the Logging Museum Trail

As we were leaving Algonquin Park, we decided to stop and go through the Logging Museum Trail. It's an educational trail and only about 1.5 kms. Kevin likes the educational part of it and the rest of us enjoy the scenery! I didn't take my super-zoom lens, so some of these shots would have been better if I had! Oh well... We hardly ever see any wildlife on this trail except for a few birds.

This time we saw lots of dragonflies (can you find it in the first photo?), gray jays (eating our snacks), a heron, a snapping turtle (going for a swim) and a few frogs as shown below. I have also included one of my favourite scenery shots.

Enjoy your week!

Wildlife at Presquile

Well, it started out pretty cloudy, but we thought we'd risk it anyway and go hiking at Presquile, so we packed up the camera equipment, kids and some snacks and off we went...After what seemed like two hours (we took Hwy#2---got to get good gas mileage you know?) we got to Presquile and like creatures of habit, we visited all the same places we visited last time we went, when we didn't have much luck seeing any wildlife (in April). We did see a few more things and I got a few pics of landscapes and the lighthouses, etc, but I'll save those for later this week.

Here are some wildlife shots that I took:

1st/2nd pic: Swans flying overhead
3rd pic: a seagull standing on the roof, on one foot
4th pic: Keturah, Kevin and Brooke
5th pic: yellow warbler (I think)
6th pic: bumblebee on flower
7th pic: butterfly on flower
8th pic: frog on a log

We then stopped in Belleville and hiked around the mall, ate at East Side Marios and just got home a few minutes ago...I'd like to close my eyes about now, but need to make lunches, finish laundry and answer some emails. Good Night!

Wildlife in Quinte

We went for a hike to the Frink Centre in Belleville on Sunday. We didn't enjoy the walk through the woods because of the mosquitos trying to eat us alive, but we enjoyed our walk along the boardwalk which went through a swamp. We saw the critters below: a small bullfrog, a large bullfrog, a couple of turtles on a log, a watersnake (EEWW!), a dragonfly and a lilypad flower.
