My Favourite Birds

Welcome Back!

This time I'm highlighting some photos of my favourite birds and I also included a palm tree! When I start seeing these along our trip, I know we're almost there (to MB)!

All of these photos except the last three were taken along the docks near Captain Nance's restaurant in Callabash, NC. Unfortunately the pelican didn't stick around long, so I didn't get very many photos of it.

The last three pelican shots were taken at Murrell's Inlet, which is a great boardwalk to walk around...Yummy restaurants here too! I think we go to MB just for the food selections! We even tried some new restaurants this time, as well as some of the usual haunts.

When we were in Murrell's Inlet, it was 26 degrees...I was about to complain about how hot it is, then I remembered how cold/snowy it was when we left, so I didn't say a word..just enjoyed it--then we went and had some ice cream!

This week has been quiet as I had hoped. That's always a good thing! I managed to hit the gym 3 days and got my haircut too. Nothing planned for the weekend....so maybe spend time in my craft room and visit my Uncle on Sunday.

Have a great weekend!

Laughing Gulls

Welcome Back!

This time I'm highlighting photos of the Laughing Gull. Wikipedia has this to say about the Laughing Gull:

The Laughing Gull (Leucophaeus atricilla) is a medium-sized gull of North and South America. It breeds on the Atlantic coast of North America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. Northernmost populations migrate further south in winter, and this species occurs as a rare vagrant to western Europe. (There was an influx into North-west Europe in late October 2005 when at least 18, possibly as many as 35, individuals occurred on one day in the UK alone.) The Laughing Gull's English name is derived from its raucous kee-agh call, which sounds like a high-pitched laugh "ha... ha... ha...".

We saw these guys in Calabash, NC. We go for a drive North, to a gift shop called Callahans and we walk along the docks and have lunch at Captain Nances (yummy)!

This is Keturah's favourite bird to look for in Myrtle Beach and so I took a "few" photos!

Well, Brooke headed back on the train on Sunday! And of course, her first train was late, which made her miss her second one! Sigh! Via ended up bussing them all to Kitchener! She's only had about 2 trips that were on time and problem-free! That will be her last trip on the train til Thanksgiving as she won't be home for Easter :-( due to exams! We will be picking her up on the 24th and she'll be home all summer!

This week is quiet, which is good! I'll get some job hunting done!

More later this week...

Feathered Friends Part III

Welcome back! Today I have more pelican shots...Sorry! These are the last of my "most" favourite shots, taken in Calabash, NC on March Break.

These are photos of the juvenile brown pelicans that we saw. I should have videotaped them as they were walking along..they waddle very similar to penguins...another one of my favourites! They did keep moving away from me for some reason! Maybe they don't like the paparazzi pointing a big camera in their beaks!

The last photo is the one of the little fishing hut, where the fisherman was cleaning fish and where all the other pelicans were congregating.

Next week I shall have shots from the Myrtle Beach Zoo, although I'm not sure what yet..probably more birds! :-)

Have a great week!

Feathered Friends Part II

Hello! This week I have a continuation of the "folder" with the brown pelicans in it from Calabash, North Carolina. The first two shots of are of the pelican group that I highlighted last week. The next 5 are shots of two different pelicans...we are thinking they are juvenile ones, based on their lack of colouring and they are also smaller in size. These guys were in the same area, although over on a different dock by themselves. My favourite shots are 5 and 8..ok, I admit they are all my favourite or I wouldn't have added them!! :-)

I will have another week of pelican shots next week and then I'll move on!

Have a great week!
