Wildlife In Peterborough

On Sunday we drove to Peterborough to visit the Zoo there. It's a pretty nice little zoo, with a very scenic walkway, train ride, fun playground and of course, the animals. I didn't shoot too many of the animals, as they are behind wire in their cages.

We took a picnic lunch and as soon as we sat down to eat, a couple of ducks showed up wanting some food---so we gave them some of our bread. They hung around for quite awhile, so they must have been hungry!

We were there for about 2hours before it started pouring down rain!!!

"Saturday in the Park"

We got out to the Napanee park late Saturday afternoon, after the rain stopped and here are a few things we saw along our way.

1. Blossoms

5. Female duck---she was on this side of the fence and her mate was on the other side of the fence and they were both walking up towards the waterfall. So cute!
6. Here's a nice-sized frog half hiding under a rock.

Funny Farm Pics...

No, not THE "Funny Farm" Pics, but Funny, Farm pics....Here are a few funny and/or cute ones from our visits to the farm.

1. Here is Harmony the Mule, rolling around--not that funny, but she was doing it in the middle of the riding ring during Keturah's class. Gave everyone a laugh!

2. & 3. Here's a pretty horse, sticking it's tongue out and then showing off it's teeth--these were taken right after we had given it some mints---maybe it doesn't really like mints or it was stuck in it's teeth!

4. This is a picture of Abby sticking her tongue out at me...I think she also tried to bite me that day too...She probably doesn't like getting her picture taken so much!

Brookie

Today is Brooke's turn for pics...Here are some of her doing various activities, but always smiling!

1. Brooke acting goofy -we were making faces at each other and taking pictures while in Niagara Falls Rainforest Cafe.

2. Brooke smiling while we were hiking at Lemoine's Point in Early Spring.

3. A recent picture of Brooke looking kinda funny- I think she was talking and I caught her with her mouth open---She'll hate me for putting this one on!

4. Another picture of her at Lemoine's Point, but this was in February (before she got her contacts).

5. Again, a picture of her at Lemoine's Point in April and she's eating a candy stick or something.

A Girl and Her Horse

Here's a typical Saturday for Keturah and her horse Abby:

1. Keturah calls and Abby comes running, well, sauntering anyway!

2. Keturah catches Abby and Abby looks for a treat (mints)

3. Keturah brushes Abby, while Abby watches her closely

4. Keturah puts the tack on Abby

5. They stop to pose for pictures

A Bird in the Hand...

is worth how many in the bush, trees, water, forest, etc. etc? Here are some pretty birds---one even says "Pretty Bird"...

1. An American Woodcock--we saw this funny looking guy in the Conservation Area in March and he was acting quite weird and Kevin thought he might be nocturnal and so when we got home, we googled him to find out what he was and it turns out he was nocturnal and they aren't usually found in Canada until summer time...he's a bit early---hope he brought his snowshoes!

2. Woodpecker-this one was taken at the same conservation area when we were out hiking in early April. He was way up high in the tree, so the pic isn't the best quality! I didn't have my new lens then! He was shot with my 70-200mm lens.

3. Rare Cockatiel-This is my pet, Wyatt, who drives me nuts most days with his "talking"...He does whistle when I come into the room, so he's good for my ego!

4. Chickadees-We were at the Lemoines Point Conservation area hiking yet again and feeding sunflower seeds to these little guys..usually they take turns, but this one must have been in a hurry and was surprised by the one sitting there eating!

5. Dove-on our way out of the Conservation Area, I saw two of these doves sitting on a branch---the other was facing away from me the whole time, so I cropped him out of the shot!

6. Ducks-this male and female duck were shot at the Napanee River along the Boardwalk, where we go for a stroll when we don't want to go all the way to Kingston.

7. Nuthatch-these little guys are so cute--more timid than the chickadees, but willing to risk eating off your hand! Keturah was feeding him poptarts during our hike and he seemed to like it!

8. Swan- this is a swan who comes each spring and stays in the Napanee River for a couple of days. Usually they come in a pair, but this year I just saw the one. Of course, he was so far out that my lens didn't do him justice here, but you can get the idea. Thanks to Kevin for pulling off the road, so I could shoot him!

Spring is Blossoming!

Here are some pretty spring blossoms from various trees (don't ask me what kind, because I'm not a gardener) and they are from various locations such as my backyard, Napanee Riverside Park and Lemoine's Point in Kingston.
